Mold is classified as a kind of fungi. Some fungi are harmless, like types of mushrooms that are safe to eat. However, others can cause serious issues or even cause death. There are hundreds of types of mold found both indoors and outdoors. It most often grows in damp, dark areas, which is why it’s commonly seen in basements, attics, cellars, crawlspaces, bathrooms, etc. Mold comes in an array of colors, most commonly seen as black. Mold typically grows and continues to grow due to a buildup of moisture that isn’t remedied, which is why it’s essential to handle flooding and leaks quickly and thoroughly to avoid a much trickier problem.
